Beeswax wraps are one of the ultimate multi-use tools in the kitchen! Gone are the days where you have to worry about how much plastic wrap you have left; now you can use the one product over and over again, avoiding unnecessary waste and money spent.Â
Beeswax wraps are pieces of cloth (often cotton) coated in beeswax, which offers a sustainable alternative to plastic or foil wraps. They’re reusable, biodegradable and compostable; but how can you use them?Â
Bowl CoverÂ
Cover your bowl of leftovers and store in the fridge for a quick fix. You can keep your leftovers for the next day or two and you aren’t using any more dishes! Â
Use the warmth of your hands to mould the wrap around the edges of the bowl but avoid covering food that is too hot to keep them in shape and happy. Â
Sandwich WrapÂ
Leave the alfoil or plastic wrap behind and wrap your sandwiches for school or work with a beeswax wrap. Use the warmth of your hands to gently fold the wrap into a pocket for the sandwich or use it like you would plastic wrap and fold it around the sandwich. Â
Snack PocketÂ
Ever heard of a snack pocket? This great idea is an alternative to your sealable Ziploc bags, allowing you to take small (or large) snacks to school or work with little effort. Gently fold the ends and one side to make a small pocket, store some nuts and dried or loose fruit, and cover with the other side, effectively closing the pocket. Alternatively, gently fold into a standing pocket for some popcorn or other loose snacks to keep your cravings happy at home without having to support it as you nibble. Â
Bread Loaf and Baked Goods
Grab an extra-large beeswax wrap and cover your loaf of bread to keep it fresh throughout the week. Other baked goods like pastries are also good to cover if you want to keep them for longer. Â
CleaningÂ
So, you’ve used the wraps…now how do you clean them? Â
If you find that your wraps need a cleaning, use some warm and mildly soapy water to gently wipe them down. Let them air dry for the best results and store flat, folded or rolled to keep them going for longer (6-12 months)! Â
AvoidÂ
One thing to remember is the fact that these wraps are still coated in wax. Make sure to avoid hot food, hot surfaces and hot water to keep them from breaking down. This way you’ll be able to use them for longer! Â
