You have read the previous blog post about how to prepare for Plastic Free July. You are inspired and now you are prepared, but how do you make sure you stick to those goals you have prepared for and make them lifelong habits. Some say it takes 21 days to form a habit but we think it is different for everyone. Either way sticking to your goals this Plastic Free July will certainly be a start to your new routine!  

Here are some handy tips to implement today to make sure you are kicking goals this Plastic Free July.  

SHOPPING BAGS 

We have all been a little guilty of forgetting our reusable shopping bags. And you have done a great job making sure you put them EVERYWHERE like we suggested last time! But what do you do after you have brought your shopping into the house and unpacked? This is where we forget to put them back ready for next time! Next time you unpack your groceries, put the reusable bags near your keys or place your purse / wallet inside of them so you don’t forget to take them with you.  

REUSABLE CUP 

Great job for choosing your cup! How have you been going with making this a lifelong habit? As was suggested in the last blog too, if you take a coffee or tea with you in the morning from home then place it under the coffee machine or next to the kettle so it is viable for your first cup of the day. Why not invest in a second cup that stays in your car. Rotate your multiple cups, so the clean one is put straight back in your car. Do you get coffee when walking with friends or walking the dog? Keep your cup next to the dog lead, keys, shoes – whatever ever works for your routine.  

MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS 

Fabulous work making the switch to reusable menstrual products! You probably have your single-use products in your bathroom and bag but we don’t want you to be wasteful and just throw them out now that you have made the commitment for plastic free July. Get in touch with a local women’s shelter to find where you can donate those items for those in need.  

REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE 

Be kind to Earth but be kind to you too! Keeping a water bottle with you at all times ensures you stay hydrated and plastic free. Keep a refillable bottle, pre-filled near your keys or bag the night before so you don’t forget to bring it with you. Why not invest in a couple and have one in the fridge and one empty in your car or gym bag. Get this habit to stick and you not only stay plastic free but you will save money too.  

BUYING LESS 

You have made a great start to your goal of buying less and making sure you are not tempted by unsubscribing to those sale emails. Take it one step further by investing in a “No Junk Mail” sign for your mailbox and eliminate the temptation of overbuying AND you eliminate waste from your household.  

By completing these practices daily, you will find that they become a part of your daily routine just like brushing your teeth and you won’t think twice about how you used to do things before Plastic Free July.
