Plastic is a big problem around the world! Everywhere we look, it’s there. Everywhere we turn, it’s there. It has very much become ingrained in our daily lives and whether we know it or it, it puts innocent wildlife and marine animals at risk, and pollutes our oceans. BUT, there are ways to combat plastic pollution in our oceans and we would love to share these solutions with you so that together we can work towards a cleaner environment.

Swap Plastic Cotton Buds Out for Bamboo Cotton Buds

Do you use cotton buds? Are the handles on your cotton buds plastic? Eep! Cottons buds are so small that they can end up in our waterways and oceans! Even worse, the tiny plastic fragments can be ingested by seabirds and turtles. We recommend making the switch to Bamboo Cotton Buds! The handles are made from 100% bamboo and ends are organic cotton. They’re the sustainable alternative and when you’re done with the bud, you can be sure that it won’t float around the ocean for years to come as they’re biodegradable and compostable!

Take Your Own Shopping Bags

Plastic bags are a NIGHTMARE and there’s a reason why they’ve been labelled as one of the Big 4 plastic polluters! Plastic bags start out as fossil fuels and end up as deadly waste in landfill and oceans. Do you have a few shopping bags lying around the house? It’s time to shake the dust off them and give them a new life! Even if they are plastic bags you once acquired from a previous shopping trip, we recommend re-using them over and over! (P.S. We haven’t forgotten about those pesky plastic produce bags – shop Organic Produce Bags here!)

BYO Drink Bottle!

Are you still purchasing plastic drink bottles? It’s time to switch it up! Not only are plastic bottles absolutely HORRENDOUS for the environment, plastic bottles have a chemical in them called Bisphenol A (BPA) which can seep into the water and can put you at risk! There are a number of reusable water bottle options out there. Our favourite is the JOCO Drinking Flask! It’s made from borosilicate glass, features a velvet non-slip grip and is easy to clean so you can take it with you wherever you go!

Make the Initial Investment in a Reusable Coffee Cup

How often do you visit your local coffee shop? Do you BYO coffee cup and use their paper cups? We hate to break it to you but paper cups are actually lined with plastic! The plastic is tightly bonded to the paper and that’s what make it waterproof! We know that the initial investment in reusable coffee cups might seem expensive, but in the long run, you’ll be saving the environment in more ways that you know!

Purchase Products Without Plastic Packaging

When shopping for new products, do you look at what they are packaged in? Most of the time, they’re packaged in pesky plastic films or wrappers! One way you can help combat plastic pollution is by purchasing products that use zero plastic. Making the switch to bar soaps is a great option if you’re looking to reduce your plastic consumption. We have a wide range of soaps from shampoos, shaving soap, facial cleaners, dish and laundry soaps, and exfoliators!

Opt For Products That Are Completely Reusable!

The best way to reduce your plastic consumption is by using COMPLETELY *reusable* products! Yes, so reusable that you’ll never have to throw them out! Reusable Bamboo Facial Pads are our favourite products of all time. They’re dual-sided so they’re suitable for all skin types and applications. Once you’ve used a facial pad, simply give it a wash, hang to dry and use it all over again! They also come with an organic cotton wash bag, so you can avoid the plastic pouches regular cotton rounds come in!
