Not long to go until Plastic Free July – the month where millions of people around the world give up using single-use plastic and opt towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. We have become so accustomed to using plastic in our everyday lives so a month without plastic might seem like an overwhelming task, but trust us, it’s not too bad! Let us show you how! Are you joining us this year?

Don’t get scared away by the name!

While many call it a ‘challenge’, the key thing to note is that you set your own goals. If you’re a first timer, the goal of cutting out the ‘Big 4’ plastic offenders (i.e. plastic bags, disposable water bottles, plastic straws and plastic coffee cups) is a great place to start. If you’ve been living plastic free for a bit longer, perhaps your goal is to steer clear of plastic food packaging. It’s as easy or difficult as you make it!

A ‘challenge’ like this requires some prep!

Don’t wait until the 1st of July to get started! The best time to start was yesterday, the next best time is now. Set your goals ahead of time, then think about how you will achieve them. Do you need to pop reusable bags in your car/handbag/work drawer so that they are within reach when the time comes? Setting yourself up now will make your Plastic Free July journey easier!

Do your best!

The Plastic Free July Challenge wouldn’t be called a challenge if it was easy! It’s likely that you will come across some sticky situations, no matter how much prep you put in. Navigate your way through this sticky situation as best as you can. Depending on the situation, you might not always get past it plastic free the first time, but that’s ok. You’ll learn how to tackle it next time and that’s a win for the planet, if you ask us!

Get involved!

Being involved in the challenge is the most important thing! And seeing how the rest of the Plastic Free July community are going can be super inspiring and motivational. We will be sharing our best tips and tricks everyday throughout the month on our Instagram @the.eco.warrior. Let us see how you’re preparing for PFJ, tag us in your posts and use the hashtag #PlasticFreeJulyWithTheEcoWarrior and join the movement!
